"As the recipient of the Jack Baker scholarship for the Midwest Weaver’s Association Roots 2007 conference, I must first say “Thank you” to all of those who were involved in making the scholarship decisions. The conference was a great opportunity for me to meet other people of like minds and to widen my knowledge about textile arts.
This is the first weaving conference I have ever attended and I can’t say enough about what a great experience it was for me. The number and variety of class choices was impressive, it made it very difficult for me to choose how to spend my time. While at the conference I looked in on many other sessions and discovered many other classes that I will have to check out at future conferences.
I was most amazed at the quality of the instructors. The session instructors I had were very good teachers, they were very informative, they were well-versed in the artistic process they were teaching and they were very generous with their knowledge. I heard about several other good instructors from other conference participants as well.
I feel like one of the greatest benefits was seeing a huge variety of avenues weaving and handwork can take, either on a small or large scale. I came home with many new ideas and with a little more courage to try them.
Thanks again. It’s encouraging to know there are many other people out in the world who are invested in carrying on the tradition of weaving and creating beautiful art."

"What a wonderful experience it was for me to attend my first Midwest Weavers Conference. To be with such a great group of people who are as passionate about the Fiber Arts as I am was very exciting. It was a privilege to meet the keynote speaker, Margaret Roach Wheeler. What a remarkable person she is.
My guild brought 9 people to the conference and we all had great praise for our different teachers. My teacher, Vicki Tardy, was excellent. She has inspired me to continue exploring overshot.
This enrichment to my weaving journey will not soon be forgotten. I am very appreciative to the MWA for choosing me to receive an attendance scholarship. Without the assistance I would not have been able to attend. I give many thanks to the MWA and the Omaha Weavers and Spinner Guild for an awe-inspiring conference.
Between the learning, fashion shows, exhibits, tours and vendors, my creative juices have been stimulated and energized. Now to weave, weave, weave."

"Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to attend the Midwest Weavers Conference. I met many delightful people, and the fact that they shared my passion for weaving made them even more enjoyable. The sessions I took from Susan Wilson were very informative, and the excitement she exuded about crackle weave rubbed off—I already have a crackle weave scarf planned as one of my upcoming projects.
Midwest was an experience I’ll cherish and one I will be able to draw upon as we Iowans become involved in planning the 2009 conference at Grinnell. Again, many thanks."
Congratulations Scholarship Winners!
